There are several ways in which a blogger can monetize a blog to supplement existing income. The amount of additional income generated from the blog will depend on the topic of the blog, the frequency at which posts are added to the blog, the ability to master some basic SEO skills and, of course, readership. Here are a few ways in which bloggers can earn money blogging:
Google AdSense
The easiest and most common way for bloggers to earn money is by placing Google AdSense ads on the blog. Signing up for Google AdSense is free. All the blogger has to do is determine how the ads should appear on the blog and insert the Google AdSense code in the appropriate areas. Once the ads are placed on the blog, the rest is up to Google (to display the content sensitive ads) and the readers (to click on the appropriate ads).
In Line Text Ads
Another advertising option is to place in-line text ads on the blog. In line text ads look different than Google AdSense ads in that they appear as hypertext links within the content of the blog. The blogger can determine the look and feel of the hyper link in order to make it conform to the blog's general look and feel.
Companies such as Kontera, Nixxie and even Amazon, provide such in-line text ads. Once the viewer's mouse rolls over the hypertext link, a text, image or video ad appears. The display varies from ad company to ad company, as does the ability to modify or configure the ad format.
Affiliate Marketing
A third way to make money from a blog is to promote an affiliate's product. An affiliate is an organization or business that is willing to share apportion of its revenue generated as a result of a blog's visitor clicking on the affiliate's link and purchasing a product or service.
